Mobility is an important requirement for mankind and a central factor for the functionality of the global business system. At the same time transport is an important emitter of greenhouse gases. In Austria transport contributes to around 26 % of the greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1990 these emissions have increased by 61 %. In order to achieve the long term climate goals being striven towards by 2050 (a greenhouse gas reduction of at least 80 %), many structurally changing measures are needed to be made in the transport system.
